Forgotten Miracle Mar 01, 2010 This is the perfect documentary for a hockey fan. The documentary, while lacking in actual footage does a wonderful job through personal interviews with the players, families, and hockey experts to tell the story of the 1960 USA hockey team. The documentary is also the perfect amount of time, allowing you to watch the whole thing in an hour and really let you know the story of the team. I would definitely recommend adding this to your DVD collection
on my hockey all-star team Feb 27, 2010 I have been a hockey parent, coach, collector and fan for over fifty years, and this wonderful DVD is a must-own for all you hockey pucks out there. It ranks right up there with the two DVDs "Pond Hockey" and "Golden: The Hobey Baker Story", plus the two books "Home Ice" and "Open Ice" by Jack Falla. I know the Cleary brothers, and "The Forgotten Miracle" shows how they and their 1960 teammates represent everything heroic and honorable about hockey in particular and athleticism in general. If they hadn't "set the table" back in 1960, I doubt if Herb Brooks and the "Do you believe in miracles" team of 1980 would ever have had its own success story. Have a box of tissues handy when you view this, or for that matter when you read or view the other four members of my "all-star" team.

At long last! Feb 23, 2010 Hockey fan or not, there is something for everyone in this DVD. Like the overdue history-dramas about our greatest generation's stuggles in WWII, this film brings home the message of athletic excellence and teamwork with the backdrop of the cold war. Since the mega-hype we are now accustomed to was not present when these few pulled off their miracle, most of us are not familiar with the story. Without miles of film or tape to draw from, this production utilizes interviews with the folks who were there, as in the HBO production "The War", by Ken Burns. This film is as much a history lesson as it is sports entertainment and is a must see for even the casual sports fan.
Before the Miracle of Lake Placid Feb 23, 2010
Capturing the tensions and turbulence of the Cold War as a backdrop, this outstanding documentary provides the historical context for what took place later in Lake Placid in 1980. From the very first moments of sports broadcasting to the innocence of the games before professionals were allowed to wear the colors of their country, the film presents wonderful perspectives from the players, coaches and team managers that forged the Forgotten Miracle of Squaw Valley. Cleary, McCartan, Mayasich, Christian and their coach, Jack Riley, recall with vivid detail the story of Team USA. With vintage footage and descriptions of the way international hockey was once played, the viewer is transported back fifty years to a time when goalies didn't wear masks, players didn't wear helmets and the zamboni was brand new! For anyone interested in the evolution of the game and its history, this is a must buy.
The First Feb 23, 2010 What a great movie! They do seem like the forgotten team. It is time people give them the credit they deserve. The 1980 team is what I remember but the 1960 team was the first and we normally remember the first.
