5Breakthrough for experimental rock band  Aug 14, 2010
First off: For all the people who commented on my posts. I've been absent on reviews because of ym soul-searching. Now I'm only reviewing albums I like.

MY REVIEW:

Animal Collective - "Merriweather Post Pavilion"

These guys know how to make good music.

That's simple all I can say about the album.

My favorite song is "Summertime Clothes." But I also like "My Girls," like many people.

Anyway, I'm giving this album five stars because it's a cool album that never leaves focus. It makes you lose touch with the real world, though. At least it did for me.

3A disappointing affair  Aug 07, 2010
At times, Merriweather Post Pavilion is a joy (the oft-mentioned 'My Girls'), but it is pretty much a plodding affair that hasn't got much to say musically. I bought this when it first came out and, surprisingly, has aged quite badly despite its stately production values. Whereas the robust Strawberry Jam still excites, MPP is simply a case of critics getting too far ahead of themselves.

3Brilliance peaks through  Jul 15, 2010
Good release from a competent band but this sounds more like an amalgam of things we've heard before. What's so aggravating about this album is you can hear some great ideas bouncing around but they're never fully realized. About 7 tracks in and I can't continue my listen- I have to take a break- too much indie silliness abound...

So we have a group of very talented people who sound like they've been told to make the same song 11 different ways. This is fine especially since the song is so good but I think the fans are the real problem- it's just not as good or innovative like they would have you believe (these fans should get together with Tool fans). Yea, it's great they only used samplers- uh... I can think of about A MILLION other bands doing the same thing and have been for decades, that's not innovative... heck, hip hop is practically BUILT on sampling & sound construction.

A great cd for a few listens but nothing groundbreaking.

4Very cool album  Jun 28, 2010
I bought this album because the song "My Girls" absolutely kills me. The rest of the record is good, although only a couple other tracks approach the awesomeness of the single. The band clearly takes a lot of time and care with its work, and some of the songs are truly inspired. It warrants repeated listening, and it's also a chill album for vibey background sound.

Some of the synth sounds and patterns on this record are absolutely ridiculous (in the good way). I want to hear more from these guys.

5Perfection  Jun 09, 2010
This album is sheer brilliance. It must be savored to be fully enjoyed. I used to think this band was nuts. Now I think they are geniuses.
